Vince weighs into 2007 with a succession of personal bests
Thirty-one years old Northampton Operations Manager Vincent Cripps has kicked off 2007 with a succession of personal bests when three days fishing at Oxfordshire's Milton Pools Fishery netted him a total of 20 fish, the biggest being superb commons weighing 33lb 10oz (left) and 31lb 6oz.
Vince, who works for retailers Next, had been fishing for the past two years with friend Peter Barnes at venues in Birmingham and Northampton and came across Milton Pools in June last year after seeing the Milton Pools/Fisheries.co.uk banner whilst driving on the M40 motorway.
He said: "After visiting the fishery I could not wait to get my rods out. I could not belive it - two good carp lakes including a specimen lake with a good head of good sized fish. Peter and I booked a few 24-hour sessions over the next two months and on my first visit I bagged five fish, all around 14lb, whilst Peter had a 25lb common.
Seeing such nice fish in cracking condition, I decided that Milton Pools would be my new home for
fishing, especially as I was after breaking my personal best which was a mere 20lb."
And Vincent didn't have to wait long. A few sessions in late 2006 saw him bringing in a 23lb mirror and in the last week of January 2007 a week's holiday led him back to Milton Pools for a one-day session which turned into three eight-hour sessions.
He said: "What followed could never happen to me again. On my first day I had eight fish which included a 26lb 2oz mirror and a 31lb 6oz common. The second day resulted in six fish including one 20 and the 33lb 10oz common whilst on Day Three I again had six fish which included one 20. The result was three days fishing for 20 fish which included four 20s and two 30s!"
He added: "All the fish were in immaculate condition and the commons were just beautiful."
For his PB sessions, Vince fished from Peg 14 to both islands and the gap in the middle using hair-rigged red maggott, Elite pop-up Monkey Fruit and Christmas Cracker boilies which can be bought at the on site shop, Size 10 hook attached to a four-inch hooklink.
Vince said: "My last word must be on the fishery and Ray, the owner and his wife Val. From Day One, Ray and Val made me feel welcome and always had time for me and would try to give good advice to help bag some fish. The fishery is immaculate, clean tidy and has washing facilities, on site cafe (val does a cracking breakfast), secure parking and an on-site tackle shop. The pegs are well spaced and very well maintained and all the fish I caught were in immaculate condition. It all sums up to mnake Milton Pools a hidden gem in the carp world.
