Open all year round from 7.00am until dusk seven days a week, Fairgirth Trout Loch offers fly fishing from the bank and a boat for rainbow, tiger and brown trout between 2lbs and 15lbs about four miles from Dalbeattie.

The Loch

An attractive water with some lovely fish, Fairgirth is about two acres in size and has a small ‘Members Lodge’ which is often open when season ticket holders are fishing the loch.

Depths vary between six and 27 feet

Depths vary between six feet at the entrance end of the loch to some 27 feet at the far end so it pays to fish at a depth suitable for the weather conditions and temperature, although it is often not necessary to fish far out as plenty of fish congregate fairly close to the edge.

When it comes to tempting the fish, popular flies and lures include the Black Rabbit, Cat’s Whisker and Yellow Dancer as well as buzzers, natural flies and nymphs.

Anglers fishing Fairgirth must use only barbless or crushed barbed hooks and fish only conventional single hook flies. All tiger, brown trout and rainbows over 5lbs must be returned after capture. Anglers are also not allowed to fish boobies or egg flies.

A variety of tickets are available

A variety of six and four hour tickets are available and must be purchased before starting to fish and season tickets are available with a limit of two fish per week.

Day and season tickets are available from the local tackle shop M McCowan and Sons in Dalbeattie who have a website at www.mmccowanandson.com, as well as from La Bella Vista beauty salon in Dalbeattie.
